Dovetail box, built for a loved one from scrap timber found near the Tate Modern on London’s Southbank. The design was loosely inspired by the solid architecture of the former power station which now houses the gallery.
The lid and base are made from a single piece of Oak, deeped (sawn in half through thickness) to bookmatch the grain with a thin strip of the primary wood (unidentified!) seperating the two leaves.
The strip on the top has been left proud for the carved lettering detail while for the base it was planed flush. The handcut dovetails are complemented by side-mounted strap hinges from the nice folks at Hawthorn Crafts.
